Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) have traditionally only been available to play on PC via such platforms. Steam or internal clients, although over the years some MMOs, including adults, have Final Fantasy XIV – extended to other systems.
One such MMO is Albion Online, a popular free-to-play medieval fantasy game from Sandbox Interactive that originally came out on Windows, Mac, and Windows. Linux It was released in 2017, later on iOS and Android mobile devices, and also in 2021. Now, Albion Online is coming to Xbox Series X|S in a few weeks on April 21st.

Additionally, Albion Online on Xbox is “optimized for console play” with “custom controller layouts, redesigned core UIs such as the Marketplace and Inventory, improved combat and targeting for controllers, keyboard and mouse support, and usability features such as communication tools and custom radial menus.”
The Xbox edition of the game will be released a week after that Radiant Wilds update This patch gives Albion Online an “extensive visual overhaul” of the MMO’s open-world zones, which will feature improved lighting and colors, new textures, and a new water shader. Sandbox’s goal with the update is to enhance the stylized graphics of Albion Online without affecting performance.
How is Albion Online itself? It’s a sandbox MMO, which means it doesn’t have a central story and instead allows players to tell their own stories through immersive gameplay and interact with the world as they choose.
Although there is PvE content to engage in, Albion Online is a PvP game, with most activities designed to bring players together and lead to dynamic encounters. All MMO basics – collecting, crafting, trading, etc. – is there, and if you decide to join a clan, there are also large-scale guild wars to participate in.
I’ve never played Albion Online myself, but if you’re into PvP and like the idea of forging your own destiny in a world that lets you do whatever you want, it looks like fun. Plus, considering how rare it is for MMOs to be on platforms outside of PC, it’s always nice to see them come to console.
