TL; DR
- Android 17 Beta 3 contains the secret code for the new “Priority Charging” feature, which stops background activity to speed up charging.
- The feature recommends using a 30W+ charger and actively manages temperature to protect battery health.
- Google’s approach focuses on smarter power distribution rather than high charging speeds.
Google latest Android 17 Beta 3 there are a lot of visible changes in the release, but as always, the really interesting stuff is hidden under the hood.
While digging into Android 17 Beta 3, we saw references to a new feature called “Priority charging”, and it may be one of those deceptively simple additions to everyday life that is actually useful.
According to the code lines of the new beta version, Priority Charging is designed for those moments when you’re short on time and need your phone charged as quickly as possible.
When enabled, the feature will temporarily stop background activity such as software updates and direct system resources to a faster charging speed. However, calls and texts should still come through normally.
Code
Priority Charging temporarily pauses
background activity like app updates for a faster charge. You'll still receive calls and texts.

The lines of code also show a recommendation to use a 30W or higher charger for the feature. This shows that Priority Charging isn’t just a software gimmick. Google expects you to pair it with fast enough hardware, presumably so that more power can go directly into the battery after background tasks are terminated.
Code
For best results, use a 30W+ adapter. Your phone
will automatically manage any temperature changes and keep your battery within normal range.
Interestingly, when SIMs have Priority Charging enabled, Android will also actively manage the temperature to keep the battery within safe limits. This is important because faster charging usually means more heat. So Priority Charging can make your phone do it more efficiently when charging faster.
Why Priority Charging and when does it come?

It is clear from the description that Priority Charging is a kind of temporary attention mode for your battery. This should ensure you get the most out of the 15-20 minute fast charge.
Android 17 Beta 3 has no indication of Priority Charging in the user-facing settings, so it’s likely still in development or being tested behind the scenes.
But if it does make it to the end, it could be one of those quietly useful features that Pixel users, and ultimately the wider Android ecosystem, will appreciate more than a boost in charging speed.
⚠️ Moment APK uninstall helps predict future features that may enter the service based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted functions may not be publicly available.
