Windows Central readers want to remove Windows 11’s mandatory Microsoft account requirement
Removing this mandatory Microsoft Account during setup is something I’ve really wanted, and I know I’m not alone. This is one of the most common annoyances I see when browsing the Windows web.
Windows Central Editor-in-Chief Zac Bowden polled our readers When illuminating Hanselman’s responseYOU are asking if Windows 11 does away with mandatory Microsoft account requirements. The results are nothing short of shocking.
The poll remains open, and if you haven’t already, please let us know what you think above.
As of this writing, 55% of our readers Asked for their opinion, they said they would use a local account if they had a choice. Other 35% said they would be happy to have both options available when building a new computer.
7% Many readers said they would use a Microsoft account even if a local account was available 3% said they are not opposed to the current mandatory account requirement.
I’m not 100% sure that the mandatory account requirement will ever go away. As my colleague Zac Bowden points out, there are many separate teams within Microsoft that certainly benefit Windows users who require an official account.
At the very least, it’s nice to see big names at Microsoft reaching out to the public as the company commits to polishing Windows. Actual results will, of course, dictate the success of the initiative.
Are these results a surprise?
