Valve quickly confirmed that it plans to ship the Steam Machine and other recently announced hardware products “this year,” after an official blog post late last week sparked some worrying speculation about possible delays.
While on Steam 2025 in Review Mainly on the new Steam tools and features released last year, and the introduction section of the company announced before upcoming hardware plans. However, in that Year’s Review article first published Friday afternoonhe inserted a surprisingly vague line “We hope to ship in 2026however, as we recently shared, memory and lack of memory created problems for us.” (Emphasis added.)
As chatter about this stray line began to filter through message boards and comment threads, Valve quickly clarified. Thursdaythe blog post was updated to note that despite global supply chain challenges, “we will ship all three products this year. More updates will be shared as we finalize our plans.” (Emphasis added.)
Attentive readers may notice that even the updated text leaves out selectors who narrowed Valve’s “this year” launch window in the recent past. Valve has announced a target of “early 2026”. in November and then said, “our goal is to ship all three products first half the year has not changed” February update (emphasis added). While we urge readers not to necessarily read too much into this change (or the initial “hope” message), we’ll note that Valve said in February that it “still has work to do to get down to concrete pricing and launch dates that we can announce with confidence, given how quickly the circumstances surrounding these two things can change.”
