Native Xbox emulation is possible on Androidand with devices like the AYN Thor pushing handheld performance even further, it was only a matter of time before enthusiasts turned their attention to the Xbox.
It has long been limited to MacOS, Linuxand on the Windows emulation side, but now, with a bit of tweaking, you can run a native Xbox emulator on Android as well. However, there are some caveats, so let’s get to the project and what you should expect.
Now, I’ll preface this by saying that the emulators themselves are legit. However, how people get games to run on them is often not the case.
There are legal ways to do this, however. For example, you may own the original physical copy and dispose of it yourself.
That aside, what the developers have achieved here is truly impressive. It is based on Android emulator Hemuthe popular original Xbox emulator that already runs on Windows, Linux and macOS.
This Android version is not made by official Xemu developers. Instead, the emulator exists because it’s open source, meaning other developers can target the project and adapt it for different platforms.
Right now, there are two versions available. One is a paid version on the Google Play Store, while another build is available for free download Biased from GitHub.
Performance, however, is a bit questionable. Retro Game Corps tried several titles on a Retroid Pocket 6, starting with Blinx, and unfortunately it wasn’t very playable.
The same issues appear with Crazy Taxi, which also struggles to run properly.
Halo: Combat Evolved is a little more playable, though it still has noticeable slowdowns. One of the best performers seems to be Otogi: Myth of Demons, which runs faster than many of the other games tested.
However, the performance is still not perfect. It’s still early days for the project, and it’s actually pretty impressive that it’s running on Android hardware.
Do you think the original Xbox emulation on Android is good or are you not interested and prefer to leave it alone?
