Do you remember a few years ago, Twitter, the platform now known as X, was leaking movies, including users Super Mario Bros. and Avatar: The Waterway? Well, you won’t believe this, but…
Easter weekend users did the same with the new releases Super mario galaxy movie and last year’s Avatar: Fire and Ashes. At the time of writing, several video camera rips of the first fell on Friday and Saturday, one replacing the others, removed by copyright. At the time of writing, io9 saw only one Fire and Ashes video with perfect clear quality.
Like last time, it’s all thanks to Twitter Blue, aka X Premium, whose benefits include up to three hours of video downloads. (Despite a running time of 3 hours and 17 minutes, Ash Makes a single post, including credits, when downloaders are cut of the Galaxy credits.) It’s currently unclear how many views either film has garnered since being posted online—for reference, the first Super Mario is reported to be over nine million views When it leaks in April 2023. When this happened, Nintendo and Illumination’s film had crossed the $1 billion mark that same weekend.
It will be a little before that The Super mario galaxy movie leaving the theaters, but in the situation Avatar: Fire and Ash, would be it just went digital at the end of March. When Waterway leaked, it had been on digital storefronts for over a month. By the time we got it, I guess Avatar 4, leakers will have managed to post it on Twitter over the weekend as they did Mario Galaxy. This probably won’t be the end of Twitter’s leaks — after all, Avengers: Judgment Day and Dune: Part Three is on holidays.
