It’s a Gemini program get deeper NotebookLM integration after initial source support was introduced last year. Google introduces the concept of “notebooks”.
These notebooks are “personal databases shared between Google products, starting with Gemini.” You can think of them as projects. The Gemini sidebar has a new Notebooks section between My Stuff and Gems.
They give you a dedicated place to organize your chats and files, and because they sync with NotebookLM, you can open a more efficient workflow directly from Gemini.
All chats now have an “Add to Notebooks” option in the overflow menu. Choosing a laptop allows you to ask questions with Gemini and all available databox tools. Sources are listed above with the option to remove and add more (Files, Disk, Websites or Copied text).
Once your chosen sources are organized in the notebook, Gemini uses them along with powerful tools and web search to provide uniquely useful answers.
In the top right corner is a shortcut to open NotebookLM, while the overflow menu lets you enable/disable “Use Notebook Memory” and add Instructions for “Tell Gemini how to respond and what tone to use.”
Conversations you have with Gemini using that notebook appear below the query box. In the meantime, that “Gemini Conversations” will appear as a resource in NotebookLM. Notebooks you create in Gemini will appear in NotebookLM.
For example, if you’re a student, add class notes to a notebook and use NotebookLM to create a Cinematic Video Review. The next day, open the Gemini app and ask him to draft an essay on that material.
The notebooks are available online first to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers. They will be available “for mobile, more countries in Europe and for free users” in the coming weeks.
This is the first step and we are working to bring more useful features to Gemini laptops in the future.
