At least four styles of Apple Glasses were tested using premium materials to sport high-end designs

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, about it The latest edition of the Power On newsletterApple is actively testing at least four different frame styles for its upcoming smart glasses project. Apple is counting on superior design flair to stand out from competitors like the Ray-Man Meta Glasses.

The report suggests that Apple is evaluating designs, and it looks like it released a number of different watches in several colors when the Apple Watch debuted in 2015.

Please note that these glasses are not augmented reality. These are simple wearable glasses with integrated cameras, microphones and sensors. They’ll be able to push notifications from your phone, take personal photos and videos, play music, and enable interactions with artificial intelligence features like improved Siri and visual intelligence capabilities.

It’s kind of like a combination of Apple Watch and AirPods in terms of functionality. The Glasses pair with a connected iPhone to enhance most of their functions, making them more of an iPhone accessory than a Watch.

Gurman says the four designs for Apple Glasses currently in testing include:

  • Large rectangular frame reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers
  • A slimmer rectangular design similar to the glasses worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook
  • Larger oval or round frames
  • A smaller, more elegant oval or round option

Apple is exploring a number of finishes, including black, ocean blue, and light brown. As with AirPods and the Apple Watch, the goal is to create an instantly recognizable design.

Gurman says the front cameras on the glasses will be oval-shaped, surrounded by indicator lights. This is another design point that will separate the Apple product from its competitors.

Notably, rather than something as common as plastic, Apple plans to use acetate, a “durable” and “luxurious” material, for the main body of the glasses.

The smart glasses project is expected to be announced either later this year or early 2027, with a launch in the spring or summer of 2027. Apple is still believed to be working on advanced augmented reality glasses with integrated displays, but the timeline for that is further off.

In the near future, the glasses are part of Apple’s strategy to produce more AI-centric devices in the coming years. Other products on the horizon include AirPods with integrated cameras, a smart home display and a wearable pendant with cameras.
