Starfield’s reported PS5 sales were revealed via Alinea Analyticsa firm that frequently reports on game sales. While his estimates cannot be confirmed, the numbers raise some open questions.
According to Alinea, Starfield has sold approximately 140,000 copies Sonyof PlayStation 5. If accurate, it’s a relatively poor indicator of what it should be Bethesda Game Studios‘ premiere RPG and first real new IP, which is what it really means.

If accurate, 140,000 sales would put Starfield even past the likes Outer worlds Alinea estimated that 160,000 copies were sold on the PlayStation 5. would be further behind such titles Microsoft flight simulator 2024 and Ninja Gaiden 4 are both said to have surpassed 240K copies on PlayStation 5.
However, it’s still early days for Starfield’s PS5 release, and according to Alinea, the game is currently selling faster than those titles.
I’m not sure if Alinea’s guess is correct, and unless Todd Howard comes down from heaven and confirms it himself, we’ll never know for sure. If the numbers are correct, it raises a bigger question, at least for me, about whether Xbox’s multi-platform strategy is really worth it.
It’s great that more players can get into these games and Some Xbox games such as Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5 performed well. At the same time, it raises a valid concern as to why anyone would invest in Xbox hardware if these same games are available elsewhere.
I’m not trying to say which approach is right or wrong here. I’ve mostly moved mine to PC, but I still enjoy my Series X, especially its spaciousness backward compatibility library goes all the way back to the original Xbox.
For now, it feels like Xbox fans are a bit conflicted, unsure of what direction Xbox will take next. I’m more excited about the brand than I’ve been in a long time, and whether it sticks to exclusives, leans on a timed exclusive, or does something completely different, I’ll be watching closely until we find out.
If you haven’t already, weigh in on the exclusivity debate yourself, and if you are anything like me, there’s probably no harm in repeating it for the millionth time.
