Opera extends the Browser Connector to Opera One and Opera GX

Following the launch of MCP compatibility in Opera Neon last month, Opera is now bringing the browser connector feature to Opera One and Opera GX. This is what it means.

Opera extends MCP compatibility beyond Neon

Opera a few weeks ago announced Subscription-based agent browser Opera Neon has gained MCP compatibility, allowing users to plug external AI tools directly into live browsing sessions.

In practice, this feature allowed Opera Neon subscribers to access chatbots and tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Lovable, n8n, and OpenClaw, interact with pages, and take actions on their behalf.

Today, Opera is extending this MCP compatibility to Opera One and Opera GX, meaning the feature is no longer limited to Opera Neon subscribers.

MCP is an open standard that connects AI models (like ChatGPT, Gemini, and of course Claude) to external systems (like Notion, Google Drive, Slack, GitHub, and Zapier).

Opera on enabling the Browser Connector in Opera One and Opera GX:

Whether you’re researching the best LED face mask to buy for a friend or researching with dozens of open tabs, your AI of choice no longer requires you to provide context: it can now.
to access and read page content, understand open tabs, and even take screenshots to analyze images or graphics – you can now allow Claude or ChatGPT to access your browser session.

Opera says the feature, which launches today in Early Bird mode, reaffirms the company’s commitment to user choice, and that “users are not locked into one company’s ecosystem, but are free to integrate the best tools for their specific needs,” according to Mohamed Salah, Opera’s Chief Product Officer.

To enable the Browser Connector, go to Settings, search for AI Services, install the Browser Connector, then connect your preferred LLM.
