YouTube currently serves ads to users who don’t have a Premium membership, and it looks like the company may soon make things even worse for those viewers. YouTube has approved 30-second non-skippable ads for people watching YouTube on TV.
YouTube on TV has become one of the best ways to consume content. I regularly watch YouTube through my app Google TVand I know many others who do the same. After all, the platform allows creators to stream content for free.
However, the company has recently been prevention of ad blockers. Not everyone is a YouTube Premium member like me, and now Google can make the experience even more difficult for non-paying users.

As mentioned first Android HeadlinesYouTube has approved 30-second non-skippable ads for advertisers running campaigns on YouTube TV. Google confirmed the change last blog post.
Google says the new “non-skippable ads” are designed specifically for the big screen. The company also says its AI will dynamically optimize between 6-second bumper ads, 15-second standard ads, and 30-second CTV’s unbreakable formats to ensure ads reach the right audience at the right time.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about this. With costs rising, it makes sense that Google would rely heavily on ads to keep the platform running, but the question is whether it comes at the expense of user experience.
Now that this ad format is available to advertisers, non-paying YouTube users can start seeing longer ads on their smart TVs. That doesn’t necessarily mean every viewer will get 30 seconds of unskippable ads, but advertisers and Google’s AI now have the ability to serve them up.
Of course, the platform needs ads to function, but this move seems a bit aggressive. It could also be part of a broader strategy to encourage users to subscribe to YouTube Premium, especially as the company is now the low-cost YouTube Premium Lite plan this removes most ads. .
