Gemini app bug removes features, brings back UI on Android

Today, a bug in the Gemini app is responsible for rolling back several recent features.

For starters, tapping the “plus” menu in the query box no longer allows you to load NotebookLM notebooks by flipping the design from the list to side-by-side pills. The Tools menu is thankfully unaffected today.

Meanwhile, “Temporary chat” button disappeared from the top right corner next to your avatar. In the profile menu “Import memory into Gemini” is missing.

gemini.google.com is unaffected today and provides a good mobile and Progressive Web App experience if you need any of these features.

In terms of other interface adjustments, the black background has become gray, as a result of which the effective pills on offer have lost their outlines.

Outside of the Gemini app, the Android overlay has reverted to its previous design without full access to the Tools menu. The full screen glare is also gone, only overlapping.

This is a bug that has been happening in the last day for Android users in stable and beta channels with Google app 17.14. Google will hopefully provide a server-side fix to restore the lost features soon.
