Samsung is still working on One UI 9 ahead of its planned launch later this summer. With the newly leaked build, we have a better look at the two features coming to your phone with this update.
As reported SamMobileInstead of building the test builds on top of Android 16, Samsung has officially moved it to Android 17. The result is a closer look at the smartphone, including several new features running on the Galaxy S26. The Tap to Share gesture, which was first leaked last month. Instead of the empty settings page seen in previous builds, this new look of One UI 9 includes more details, including a step-by-step process on how to share documents by tapping devices together.
It all sounds pretty easy. Touching your device to another supported phone while Gallery, Quick Share, or the sharing panel is open on your phone allows you to send selected photos, videos, and other files. A simple tap from the home screen shares your contact profile, including phone numbers, email addresses, and more. facilitates exchange. To use, both phones must be unlocked and the back of each phone must be touched. Where the devices meet in Samsung’s menu depends on the model of both phones. After clicking, you just need to press the accept button on the device receiving this data transfer.
We know Google is working on similar featurespresumably for improved cross-OEM support to allow file sharing between the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10, for example. still has this functionalthough in my experience it’s relatively stealthy and doesn’t always work as intended.
In addition to Tap to Share, Samsung is rolling out new Bixby widgets for your home screen, with easy-to-find ways to interact with the company’s AI assistant through both keyboard and voice commands. This is another sign of life for the beleaguered Assistant opponent that has been achieved some fresh improvements thanks to a new partnership with Perplexity earlier this year. Whether those widgets will be enough to get fans behind the Twins remains to be seen.
Expect One UI 9 to roll out later this year, presumably with the company’s planned initial release for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8.
