I’ve lost count of how many times created records and kept putting off opening them because they were so messy. They weren’t formatted and I couldn’t tell which was a title and which was a copy.
That’s when I decided to try out one of the AI note taking apps and see what it could do. I went with Mem and what I did with my notes was more than I expected.
I threw a wall of text at Mem to see what would happen
Sections are back with bold terms and a comparison table
I wanted to create a record of what dogs can and cannot eat. So I asked Gemini to put something together. When I pasted it into Mem, I ended up with a wall of text. Then I saw the broom icon glowing around it and as I bent over it it said: “Clear records with a click.” The meme added things like captions, bullet points, and previews of what it added and removed. The app also added a comparison chart of which foods are safe and which aren’t.
In the preview I was able to see the suggested fixes without deleting what I had. My notes were in blue and Mem’s suggestions were in red. If there was a suggestion I didn’t agree with, I could click the Upgrade button to adjust the suggested adjustments. Even after that he didn’t fix anything until he showed me another preview with the latest changes. I was able to click Accept to make them permanent.
I didn’t feel like writing, so I told Mem what to write
I could see the note take shape and capture everything I missed
After a long day of typing, my fingers can feel cramped. So when I need to add something to the record, I use it voice recording The feature of getting all my thoughts out in one brain dump. Memory shows me what I’ve added, making it easier to review because I can see if I missed something.
Mem treats each statement as a new line, but the recording doesn’t stop when I stop speaking. I can see how long it took me to create the note, but it won’t stop until I click Done. I can then see how Mem asks me to edit my notes with the new information and shows me a preview of what is being added and what will be removed. If I’m happy with the changes, I can click Done.
I asked Chat to check my notes and it caught what I missed
It prevented me from adding information that was already in my notes
I wasn’t too sure about adding a section on what human foods can be used as dog food. I asked Mem’s conversation if that section was in my notes without reading the entire note again to make sure. After searching for a few seconds, it told me that I already have a section on this.
The conversation showed the title of the section, Safe and Healthy “Human Food” Treats. It showed me the information:
-
Formatting
-
Emojis
-
Why these foods taste great
This made it easy to browse the data and find the part of the record I wanted. She also included a little note about the 10% rule, which recommends that treats should not exceed my dog’s daily caloric intake.
I haven’t exceeded the limit yet, but 25 notes per month is not too much
It costs $12 a month when my other recording apps are free
I don’t really like the 25 records per month you can create in the free tier. I haven’t reached the limit yet, but I know I will eventually. I don’t want to pay another subscription fee. I have other apps that I can use for free to paste my notes, like Obsidian and Google Keep. They don’t clear my records like memes, but at least they’re free.
If I start looking at Mem only as a memory program, I will hit the limit
I don’t need to save every record, I just need to clear it
I don’t keep my notes for long. I’ve only had them for a few weeks. After a while, I cleaned my records and got the place I needed. I won’t worry about it 25 note limitI will delete the ones that are no longer needed. Mem has already cleaned them up for me so I can copy and paste them elsewhere.
My notes are finally readable and that’s all I need
I already have a notepad, but I wanted to try Mem. I wasn’t disappointed with what it could do, but I wasn’t too happy with its limitations. I’m still doing things with the free version and that’s all that matters right now. I already have a plan when I hit the limit and it doesn’t include paying a monthly subscription fee.
