The obverse depicts protagonist Ryland Grace strapped to a ship, drifting just outside an airlock against a bright, colorful space background. It’s instantly recognizable if you’ve read Andy Weir’s book (or seen the film adaptation), and it’s much louder than Amazon’s usual silent covers.

It unfolds like a hardcover folio with a magnetic front cover that wakes or sleeps your device when you open or close it. This is standard functionality for Amazon, but it helps set the design apart from cheaper third-party fan-made covers. Combined with a bold sci-fi design tied to one of the most popular modern space novels, the case is even more eye-catching.

There aren’t many reviews yet, although initial impressions describe it as solid and well made. Few comparisons put it closer to Amazon’s slimmer covers than larger baby boxes. Amazo doesn’t specify the material of the bowl anywhere on its product page, though one early review describes it as a “soft leather-like” material.

The Project Hail Mary case is available now, Amaze, Amaze, Amaze, for $49.99, which puts it a bit above Amazon’s standard covers.
