Honor’s latest flagship phone with key features for mobile photography is getting a major MagicOS patch.
Later this week, Android Central’s Nicholas Sutrich spotted the April 2026 security update rolling out. Honor Magic 8 Pro. Sutrich has provided a changelog of incoming changes, and they are many. Honor says the update is 1.2GB and brings several camera improvements. Magic 8 Pro’s telephoto focal length has been increased to 200x when in PHOTO mode. In addition, the “shot effect” has been optimized for the camera.
Honor Connect is another area of focus in this patch. Users can access Connected Files to “view and download photos, videos, and other files directly from your phone to your Mac.” Users need to install Honor WorkStation on their Mac and follow the on-screen procedures to connect. Elsewhere, if you’ve paired your Honor and iPhone, Easy Hotspot turns the latter into a hotspot for the former.

On the home screen, you get a quick release option for folders and the ability to uninstall multiple apps. For the lock screen, Honor details a customized touch gestures for widgets for frequently used functions. Users can now set their preferred fingerprint icon and animation.
The rest of the changelog is as follows:
- The AI button provides one-touch access to various functions, including quick services, sound modes and flashlight.
- After turning on the lock screen, you can swipe down to access the Control Center. This provides quick access to frequently used functions without unlocking the phone.
- Screenshot editing now features AI editing that lets you add text and perform Magic ReTouch with one touch.
- The notification center allows you to pin notifications to the top.

The patch notes end with system stability improvements, fixes for random stutters, and phone battery life optimizations.
Photography is the main part of Honor Magic 8 Pro was the main talking point for the brand during the Snapdragon Summit 2025. Honor introduced the world to the Dual Engine approach to AI in a device. Magic Color is the company’s new way, an AI engine that helps users in their daily tasks while taking and editing photos. Honor has also deployed a photography kit for the Magic 8 Pro that makes you feel like you are. takes a traditional mirrorless camera (but it’s a phone).

Useful camera updates aside, I think it’s interesting to continue the partnership with Honor. apple iPhone (or Mac) file transfers to Android. This is an ongoing trend in the industry, with other OEMs doing the same for their devices. It feels like it all started when RCS finally hit iPhones. All kidding aside, Honor’s latest flagship Pro model also debuted in the UK earlier this year, bringing more powerful AI and photography to our friends across the pond.
