The MacBook Neo once again performs better than expected
As soon as Apple announced the A18 Pro MacBook NeoWith a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 8 GB of memory, people naturally started asking: Will this be enough?

But the game tends to be a very different story. And despite Apple’s best efforts to position the Mac as a gaming powerhouse, the truth is that the gaming community never quite embraced it as Apple had hoped.
Considering this, Andrew Tsai Decided to play the following 10 games on 512 GB MacBook NeoIn addition to Switch emulation:
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Minecraft
- World of Warcraft
- Control
- Resident Evil Requiem
- Resident Evil 2 (remake)
- Counter-Strike 2
- Elden Ring
- Dark Souls Remastered
- Mewgenics
In general, MacBook Neo With its biggest limitation being 8GB of memory, it held up better than many expected. Naturally, native macOS games performed better than Windows games running translation layers, and in all cases, performance was highly dependent on how much memory the game took up.
For example, Cyberpunk 2077 only ran well at 720p with all settings lowest possible, while Minecraft ran between 50 and 300fps at 1080p, depending on the presets.
When it came to games that went through translation layers, the results were very mixed, with titles like Counter-Strike 2 being “completely unplayable,” while Mewgenics “runs almost flawlessly. It’s a basic 2D game that runs through OpenGL.”
If you’re interested in games, and even if some of these conclusions may seem intuitively obvious, it’s still worth watching Tsai’s video because it contains some interesting insights into what’s going on. MacBook Neo can do for the Mac-based gaming community, both now and in the long term.
