
An error message heard by some Google Home users indicated that the automation was disabled – this crazy. Thankfully, that’s not the case, but Google Home will soon be removing its phone-related actions.
Some users they noticed In the past few days, their speakers and smart displays have said:
…just so you know, phone transactions and automations will no longer be available starting the first week of May.
Frankly, this is very disturbing. Automations a huge Part of Google Home and one that has been greatly improved in recent months. So it would be absolutely wild for Google to suddenly pull the rug out, but that’s not the case.
Google confirmed Home Automation in response to an affected user no moves away, but certain actions are taken. In the first week of May – coming soon – Google Home will stop supporting phone-related automations. These include setting Do Not Disturb mode, reading the battery percentage, changing the volume, etc. includes
Google says:
We wanted to clarify that we are not canceling automations in May. In automations, we remove phone-related operations (ie, check battery level, set/remove Do Not Disturb, and set your phone’s volume). Home automations will continue to work and any Home operations will remain part of your automations and fully functional.
Most likely, the message was read only to users who used one of these functions, but in any case, the automation as a whole is not going. We’re guessing phone-related automations aren’t used that often at home anyway – they’re only available when you enable automation on your phone, and don’t apply if you’re using something like the Nest Hub.
