Samsung’s upcoming foldable lineup includes the first new major form factor in years, as the “Wide” device enters the fold as a second book-style device. In a new leak of mockups, we get a better look at just how different the Galaxy Z Fold 8 “Wide” will be.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8’s wider sibling, thought to be called “Wide”, will be a pretty big departure for the lineup. Leaks showed will learn many times how the new form factor with an internal 4:3 display will differ from the existing design with a wider internal panel and an external display similar to the original Google Pixel Fold. The flagship Galaxy Z Fold 8, meanwhile, not expected to change much.
Samsung is thought to be following or at least pre-empting Apple’s first foldable iPhone with this design.
While the dimensions tell us just how different this new design will be, a picture is worth a thousand words – in this case, two or two.
The famous Sonny Dickson bought to Twitter/X Today to share images of the alleged Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 “Wide” dummy units. These show the new devices side-by-side, really showing how radically different the Wide is. It is much wider and shorter, falling into an imperceptible trace all of them which is bigger than the Flip 8, especially considering that the standard Fold is about the size of a standard tablet.
Note that these dummies also show the rings for the wireless charger. Earlier, the effect of Qi2 magnets could excite us, but Samsung doesn’t seem interested in getting this industry right standard – if anything, the company looks at it keep making compatibility a nightmare.
Samsung is expected to launch these devices side-by-side, and personally, I’m excited for the Wider. I was a big fan of the original Pixel Fold’s form factor, but I’m curious to see the two side-by-side in person. Although, upon closer inspection, it only continues to heighten my excitement.
