After felt dozens of leaks and rumorsValve has confirmed that the Steam Controller will go on sale on May 4 for $100. Valve has yet to announce a price or release date for the Steam Machine or Steam Frame, which were announced alongside the Steam Controller last year.

It’s a little surprising to see Valve release the Steam Controller on its own without a Steam Machine, but given the ongoing RAMpocalyse and the delay of a console-like gaming PC, it makes sense. The Steam Controller works with any PC running Steam and as a gamepad for smartphones.

While I haven’t gotten around to it myself, it looks a lot like the Steam Deck turned into a controller, complete with a pair of haptic touchpads. The original Steam Controller released in 2015 only featured touchpads, while this second-generation version offers more traditional joysticks.

While the Steam Controller’s $100 price tag isn’t outrageous, it’s $60 more than the Xbox Series X/S and $70 more than the PlayStation 5 DualShock 5 (both gamepads often sell for $50).

More to come…
