When you’re trying to get work done and need to download and organize a ton of files, the last thing you want is a download manager that makes things more complicated than they need to be. This goes double for productivity apps like Microsoft Teams, where people upload sensitive and time-critical documents all the time.
Fortunately, Microsoft Teams is working on common pain points that people face with a download manager. The company is working to improve control and accessibility of your downloads, and it will also stop blocking important parts of your workflow.
Microsoft Teams is getting a download manager update soon
It should work with you, not against you
In the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, the company detailed what it plans to do with the download manager. If you’re hearing about it for the first time, the Microsoft 365 Roadmap is a handy hub detailing everything the company has planned for the future for productivity apps. It informs users of what to expect and allows businesses to adapt to upcoming changes before they arrive.
A new feature arrived on Roadmap earlier today. titled “Microsoft Teams: Improved visibility and control for downloads,” appears to be an update to the existing download manager to fix pain points that users are facing. It will come to both desktop and macOS with a June 2026 launch date.
What you can expect from the update:
Updates to the download manager in Microsoft Teams make it easier to track file progress with improved visibility, control, and accessibility. You can now open the manager using the title bar or keyboard shortcut and view downloads without blocking main chat and channel actions.
The feature is listed as “in development”, so a launch date is more tentative than certain. Hopefully, Microsoft can get this update out soon so that Teams users can manage downloads faster.
