Samsung’s laptops have been running software from Google’s kitchen (ChromeOS) for a long time, but that’s changing for future releases.
A report by SamMobile the publication says it’s “just learned” that Samsung is going to launch an all-new “Android-based” line of Galaxy Books. It adds that each of these laptops could fall into the “low-end, mid-range and flagship” markets once they debut. Given the heavy focus on Android in this report, SamMobile says Samsung will ditch ChromeOS in favor of Google’s upcoming AluminumOS.
People Android Police He caught wind of this report and added that there is speculation that Samsung is reaching for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processor or its in-house brand (Exynos) for heavy duty. Furthermore, the report claims that Samsung will use Android 17 as its software base under the AlminumOS umbrella. Plus, consumers could see A UI 9 as a common skin on top of Android 17, we can see many of the features and tools we use from Galaxy phones and tablets.

Little is known about what the laptops will do (or even look like). The publication assumes us can be Seeing something at I/O 2026 and that’s not a bad guess.
Future laptops
It’s been a few weeks Google has published a list of its sessions For I/O 2026, but there’s a teaser of its software. The event will begin on May 19th at 1pm ET/10am PT. We’ll see a major keynote that’s sure to bring some interesting insights into the company’s plans moving forward. On that day, Google will hold several mini-events (or sessions) about its AI, Android 17 and Chrome.

Besides Gemini and XR stuff, I’ve been wondering what else I/O 2026 might hold. Maybe that’s it. Alleged early AluminumOS UI leaks really give off a new age vibe. It’s new, it’s Android. I think it looks good and it’s clear that Google is trying to do more with the desktop/.laptop experience. I mean, let’s be real, it competes with Apple’s MacBooks.
The next day, on May 20, the company will roll out Android, ChromeOS, XR, and more. While these are usually aimed at developers or people who want to go really deep, our keynote on May 19th is where we can see the bigger, consumer-focused highlights. If Samsung and Google want to discuss future Galaxy Books, it could be there or later.
AluminumOS was first talked about at the end of last year when there is a job posting confirmed its existence. Although this is its codename, it appears that Google is integrating Twins potentially hinting at a more enriched redesign over ChromeOS, including in this new OS. Moment is the alleged first review in January actually made this ChromeOS replacement likely. AluminumOS combined the desktop mode aesthetics of ChromeOS and Android 16 with split-screen and other Android-style UI changes.
