Motorola has just introduced 2026 Razr seriesand once again, we only get incremental improvements. Book style Moto Razr Fold Motorola is finally following Samsung and Google in this space, but this folding year is coming a little late because it’s interesting in its own right.
But the Razr, Razr+, and Razr Ultra are largely unchanged from their predecessors, and if anything, the entry-level Razr has modest upgrades. With Motorola not changing much this generation, the focus is on next year and whether we’ll get better hardware in the next generation of Razr devices – which is what I’d like to see with Motorola’s 2027 foldables. Obviously, there’s no concrete information on what Motorola has planned with the 2027 update, but I’ll add all the relevant details to this post once they become available.
We need 256 GB of memory
While the base model Moto Razr has a lot to offer, it now retails for $799, $100 more than its predecessor. Surprisingly, it only gets 128GB of main storage, which is not enough in 2026. I switch between phones on a weekly basis and 128GB is no longer enough to accommodate all my apps, including the hundreds of photos I take weekly.

I understand that the price of memory and storage products is very inflated now, but that’s no excuse to cut the memory in half while increasing the price – last year’s Razr 2025 had 256GB of main memory.
Motorola should produce a mid-range Razr
On the subject of pricing, Motorola should make a mid-range foldable device. A Razr in the $500-$600 range will sell really well, and while older models will inevitably be launched around those prices, a mid-ranger will allow Motorola to make even bigger strides into the foldable category.
Motorola has a healthy 50% share of the US foldable space, and would go a long way in building a portfolio of lower-priced models. Motorola doesn’t even have to do much; Keep the same specs as the Razr 2026, but only one camera, no MIL-STD 810H rating, and a regular battery (instead of the silicon model), which should allow it to sell for a lower price. Whether or not Motorola actually does that is another matter entirely.
The Razr+ model is in dire need of improvements
Motorola focused most of its attention on the base Razr this year, and as a result, the Razr+ 2025 is virtually identical to the Razr+ — which, in and of itself, was indistinguishable from the 2024 model. Basically, the 2026 Razr+ is a three-year-old phone, and apart from a bigger battery that now uses silicon technology, there’s really no change to the device.
With the Razr+ 2027, Motorola will have to offer major improvements to justify the existence of a foldable device. A brighter OLED panel is a must, along with overhauled internals; With the 8s Gen 3 moving forward, a $1,000 foldable needs at least the equivalent of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
We also need better cameras; Although Motorola added a LOFIC camera to the Ultra, the Razr+ 2026 still has the same cameras as the Razr+ 2024, and while the core camera algorithms have been tweaked, it still badly needs an update.
The Razr Ultra 2027 should live up to its name
While the Razr Ultra has a new camera similar to the one on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the device misses out on the latest internals. It doesn’t use Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line platform, and that should change in 2027. Motorola doesn’t have a 1TB model this year either, and that should be back next year.
Any Ultra device – foldable or otherwise – needs to feature the latest technology, and this year it’s terrible not to. The 2026 Razr Ultra is $200 more than its predecessors, but not enough to justify the price increase. I don’t know why anyone would buy a foldable when it was last year’s Ultra currently available on Amazon for just $699. Motorola does a decent job of differentiating by spreading unique designs and should do the same with flagships in 2027.
We need more software updates
With Google and Samsung guaranteeing software updates for seven years on their phones, Motorola’s foldables lag behind. 2026 Razr models only get three guaranteed Android OS updates along with five years of security updates, and that’s not enough.
Motorola is doing interesting things with software; new Google Photos The integration on the 2026 Razr models is unique and makes the overlay screen more usable. While Motorola’s overall software and interface continues to be clean, it needs a visual overhaul and better features.
The Razr Ultra 2025 is still a great choice if you need a new Motorola phone, and the best part is that it’s less than half the price of the 2026 model.
