Microsoft introduced a new product Windows 11 preview builds today It comes with a very interesting modification designed to make the OS lighter and less noisy. Starting with today’s preview build Widgets Panel It will hide the MSN feed by default, favoring a custom and customizable Widgets interface instead.
“We’re trying to make Widgets feel less distracting and overwhelming by calming the experience by default” Microsoft says in a blog post published today.
Microsoft is also changing some default behavior around the Widgets Panel. The panel will no longer automatically open when you hover over the weather icon in the taskbar, and the icon itself will only show the weather unless you specify that you want to show other information, such as stocks.
Here are the changes:
- Disable opening on hover by default
- Disabling the taskbar icon by default
- On first launch, it opens to the widget experience
- Limit taskbar notifications until you choose to open and interact with the Widgets experience
This change is part of a larger Microsoft Windows K2 effort is a project put together in the second half of last year that addresses Windows 11’s biggest problems. User feedback is being taken into account and the company has confirmed that it is going to reduce ads. AIand bloat in OS as part of this initiative.
Having the MSN feed no longer appear by default will help reduce the number of ads that appear out of the box in the OS. Now, if users want to see ads or stories in the Widget Bar, they will have to manually set the MSN feed as the default view.
