We’ll take it: a TikToker vows to buy Spirit Airlines after rallies collapse over the weekend

When Spirit Airlines shuts down Saturday night — canceling all flights, laying off 17,000 workers and giving ticket holders only don’t come to the airport – people were amazed and deprived. For all its insults, Spirit was cheap. Then one of them had an idea.

Frequent Flyer Complaints Voice Actor Hunter Peterson, Posted by TikTok asks: If 20% of American adults chipped in on Spirit fares and just . . . got it? He called it “Spirit 2.0: Owned by the People.” Within hours, he threw up the website — an hour’s work, by his own admission — and by Sunday, 36,000 “founding backers” had pledged nearly $23 million, crashing his servers in the process.

None of this is real money. These are non-binding promises. Also worth noting: the actual cost of buying and restarting an airline is in the billions. Peterson knows this. In a video released earlier today, she winked and said in one word, “Help?” tried to recruit aviation lawyers, PR people and attorneys with his question.

“I know I don’t know,” he told his audience, “but you’re making that much of a commitment, and I’m committed to it.”
