If you’re currently paying Amazon to stream ad-free Prime Video, the price is about to go up.
This is because of the new “Prime Video Ultra” level will debut next month will replace the current ad-free option.
Prime Video Ultra will cost $4.99 a month for US subscribers when it launches on April 10.
This price is on top of a standard Amazon Prime subscription ($14.99/month or $139/year). And that’s a significant increase over the current $2.99/month ad-free plan.
Along with the higher price, Amazon offers additional features for its Ultra plan:
- up to five parallel streams (currently three)
- Up to 100 downloads (currently 25)
- and exclusive access to 4K/UHD streaming
This last one could force a whole new wave of upgrades from the basic Prime Video plan.
Why the changes? From Amazon’s announcement:
Offering ad-free streaming with premium features requires a significant investment, and this structure aligns with other major streaming services while providing customers with the flexibility to choose how they want to watch. Prime members will continue to enjoy the core Prime Video benefit, including HD/HDR and now Dolby Vision, at no additional cost with their Prime membership.
Prime Video Ultra is only available in the US for now, but if it’s successful, we’ll see similar releases around the world in the future.
If you want ad-free streaming, simply continues to rise in price.
