Belkin’s Pixel Watch charger has been destroyed by Google

Across four generations, perhaps the most annoying thing about Google’s Pixel Watch lineup is the lack of accessories, and especially charging stations. The appeal of a multi-device charging station that spans your phone, headphones and smartwatch is obvious, but Pixel Watch owners are sadly left out. Belkin has the best Pixel Watch-compatible charging station I’ve seen right now, but Google’s failure to stick with the decision basically ruins it.

I’ve tried to find multiple device charging stations for my Pixel family before. I tried a setup a while ago featuring two wireless charging pads and a Pixel Watch dock, but that was the worst case scenario with such build quality and the typical annoyances that come from these no-name accessories. And all this time, Google’s “official” solution requires you to use USB-C instead of wireless charging – no thanks.

That’s why I was so excited to launch Belkin the first Pixel Watch compatible charger at CES earlier this year. Active first impressionit was a solid choice and one that has been better in my house for the past few months.

The Belkin Modular Charging Dock is a brilliant idea. There’s a Qi2 25W dock on top that reveals a second wireless charger for your earbuds. Next, a small shelf pops out from the back to hold the smartwatch charging disc. The box includes attachments for the Apple Watch, Pixel Watch 1, Pixel Watch 2/3, and select Galaxy Watch models (including the latest generations).

But if you notice, there is no Pixel Watch 4 support.

Therefore, this dock lives in my wife’s tomb, not mine.

For the past few months, he has been able to use it without issue. The only headache after installation was finding the watch shelf didn’t extend all the way, so her watch was inconsistent charging until we realized we needed to take it out a bit more. It’s been smooth sailing ever since. The simple setup keeps her nightstand cleaner than mine, and it’s truly a “no-brainer” experience. The Qi2 part keeps the weight of its Pixel 10 Pro charged and docked, while a little one it’s a bit light for my tastes, making it easy enough to remove the phone without taking the entire dock off. The headphone charger is a bit small for the Pixel Buds, but it still gets the job done.

I hate that I can’t use it with the Pixel Watch 4.

I can’t blame Belkin for that. This product was probably in development long before Google said anything about the new charger design, and yet Google is breaking the industry standard here. Belkin could have designed this product for a large number of Apple Watch owners, but instead chose to allow Pixel Watch owners to plug in – no point in changing it later since Google changed the charger again.

Progress and improvements are part of any good technology, and with the Pixel Watch 4, I understand and appreciate the improvements that Google has made. But, pleaseCan we stop the crazy charger swapping? Google’s indecision kills great third-party accessories and makes it harder for partners like Belkin to build them.

Apple has been using the same charger for nearly a decade – Google, you’ve already gone through three of four generations. Just make up your mind at least for our benefit.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

The Belkin Modular Charging Dock is available in both the “Sand” color pictured in this review and the black color for $64.99. If you have a Pixel Watch, Watch 2, or Watch 3, that is absolutely worth a look.

there is It’s an option for Pixel Watch 4 owners, but it’s not as elegant.
