On May 7, 2026 IGN, in an exclusive presentation for the first time in the worldThe trailer for Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, the upcoming co-op shooter in the Alien franchise, has premiered.
This 4-player game aims to improve on its predecessor with more Xenomorphs to shoot and new ways to kill them with your friends. It is planned to be released in the summer of 2026 Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5and via PC Steam and Epic Games Store.
In this game, you play as the Colonial Marines, a combat unit sent to the far corners of the galaxy to defend humanity from the savage Xenomorphs.
Your missions won’t be easy, as you and your team will often be attacked by hordes of Xenomorphs of varying sizes. To survive, you’ll need to coordinate with your team and master different character classes and weapons to destroy the Xenomorphs before they kill you, eat you, or worse.
As for the gameplay improvements that this sequel plans to bring, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will include new character classes to play. The first of these is the new Specialist Class, which has the ability to mix and match the abilities of all classes, so players can create a marine of all trades.
Also, unlike the first Aliens: Fireteam Elite game, this game will have 4 player co-op instead of 3 and will support cross-play between all platforms, so everyone can join the bug hunt.
You’ll need new classes and a larger party size, as Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 players will be battling a slew of new Xenomorph species, some of which can give the Alien Queen a run for her money.
In addition, you will have to fight rogue machines and androids set up by the antagonistic corporation Weyland-Yutani, who want to hinder your mission.
Finally, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will launch with a Horde mode where you and your friends can fight endless waves of Xenomorphs and earn valuable rewards depending on how many waves you clear.
Windows Central’s Take
One of my former colleagues (now social media manager at horror game studio IllFonic), Miles Dompierre, loved the original Aliens: Fireteam Elite.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars for its addictive co-op shooter gameplay, amazingly deep character and class customization, phenomenal orchestral soundtrack, and endless amounts of fan service and homages to the Alien movies and Prometheus.
However, it was mostly due to its low budget that hindered its visual presentation and 3-player co-op in a market full of 4-player co-op shooters.
According to the Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 trailer, the developers have already addressed these complaints. During the gameplay segment of the trailer, the visuals already look like a huge improvement, with more detailed lighting and character models, and 4-player co-op looks like a chaotic, fun time.
Personally, I never played the original Aliens: Fireteam Elite when it came out in 2021 because I was too busy. Monster Hunter Rise about Nintendo Switch Before coming to PC.
However, I’m willing to make up for it when the sequel comes out. I remember enjoying Aliens more than Aliens as a kid, so this action-packed take on the Aliens franchise sounds right up my nostalgia alley. Plus, 4-player co-op shooters are, 99.9% of the time, always a good time, especially with friends around.
So, stay tuned for more as we track the full release date and additional gameplay details of Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.
