Walmart is in the process of introducing its new line of Google TV streamers, and while I’m very interested in the Pro model, it’s the first 4K streaming stick to ship, and I’m hoping it’ll be the exact Chromecast replacement for Google TV (4K).
Chromecast with Google TV launched in 2020 as a solid introduction to a new experience – aged well – but Google took it long it’s time to introduce an improved version. Google TV Streamer is a major upgrade storage and performance issues has long plagued Chromecast, but it was never a direct replacement because it simply filled a completely different need from a hardware perspective.
So even though I’ve happily replaced the other Chromecasts in my house with Google’s newer devices, one of the TVs in my house is stuck on the old hardware. The Google TV Streamer’s larger size was far from ideal behind the TV set up in my office, with no room for a streaming box underneath – nor did I want to deal with the associated cable management. i tried Ten 4K Plus last year at this location, as well as some old Walmart streaming boxes, but the need for a full HDMI cable made things feel pretty cumbersome.
With that in mind, I was happy to hear that Walmart is making a 4K streaming stick, something that Google TV customers have been strangely hungry for for some time.
The “Onn 4K Streaming Device,” as Walmart calls it, is a small streaming stick that reminds me of a Roku stick. On the one hand, an HDMI plug (with a short extender in the box if it doesn’t fit your TV perfectly) and on the other USB-C. A power adapter is included in the box and in about a minute I was up and running. He sat behind my TV exactly Chromecast did it without any extra fuss. I used an HDMI extender, but it’s so short and, more importantly, rigid, that it didn’t feel clunky and messy like alternative devices.

Other than that, it’s a pretty standard Google TV experience. The installation uses a new stream that started last year, it has full Gemini support out of the box and performance is solid. Despite only having 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage like the older device on offer, it’s significantly faster than my Chromecast. If this was the main streamer for my home, I’d be worried about these features, but for me, it’s just for YouTube video, live streaming, etc. in my office. is a secondary device used for This is where this device fits in perfectly – in the secondary room. You could switch to the Onn 4K Pro or Google TV Streamer for the main living room, but even so, Walmart’s new streaming bar is up to the task. I’ll be interested to see how this continues over time.
The included remote is also very familiar, using the same remote that Walmart has included in their devices for years – still It is one of Google’s reference designs.

The Walmart Onn 4K streaming stick is now on sale for $39.88 the most customers – the presentation is still in progress, therefore your result may vary by region. But if you’ve been looking for the right Chromecast with Google TV replacement, this is the best I’ve tried – at least in the states.
