How will work settings change if we spend more and more time talking to our computers? The last feature in the Wall Street Journal Looks at the growing popularity of spelling apps like Wispr, especially now that they can plug into vibe coding tools, and what that could mean for office etiquette.
One VC said that visiting startup offices now feels like walking into a high-end call center. And Gusto co-founder Edward Kim apparently telling his team that in the future, offices will sound “more like a sales floor.” (Since someone is still hurt from the time their desk was briefly moved to the sales floor, let me say: No.)
Kim claimed that she now only writes when she has to. But he admitted that dictating all the time in the office can be “a bit awkward”.
Similarly, AI entrepreneur Mollie Amkraut Mueller said she was annoyed by her husband’s habit of whispering into his computer, so their late-night work sessions consisted of sitting apart or “one of us would stay in our office.”
But Tanay Kothari, founder of Wispr, insisted that one day it will all seem “normal”, just as staring at your phone for hours has become commonplace.
