Digg is back from the dead. Again.
Just months later activationthe reboot Kevin Rose’s once popular link sharing site closed in Marchas the company changes course. Originally revised as a competitor On the massive community forum site Reddit, the fledgling Digg found that it was unable to effectively manage the bot traffic invading its platform and was not differentiating itself enough from the competition to make an impact.
The startup laid off staff and said it was time to go back to the drawing board. Rose, a partner at True Ventures, returned to work full-time on the new version of Digg in April.
Founder of Thursday previewed a newly revised passage Diggnow it doesn’t look like any Reddit clone and more like the news aggregator it used to be.
This time, the site focuses on ranking news, especially AI news.
In an email to beta testers, the company said the site’s goal is to “follow the most influential voices in the space” and actually spread news that’s worth “paying attention to.” Artificial intelligence is where it’s testing the idea, but if it’s successful, Digg will expand to other topics.
The email warned that the site was still under development and “bugged” and was designed to give users a first look rather than serve as a public debut.
On the current home page, Digg displays four main stories at the top: the most viewed story, the story that saw the most discussion, the fastest climbing story, and an “In case you missed it” headline.
Below is a ranked list of the day’s top stories, complete with engagement metrics like views, comments, likes and saves. But the twist is that these metrics aren’t Digg’s own generated metrics. Instead, Digg ingests content from X in real-time to determine what’s being discussed, while performing sentiment analysis, clustering, and signal detection to determine what’s most important.
Like Rose X noted, When OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tackles a story about artificial intelligence, it almost always sets off a chain reaction that includes deep discussion and promotion of the topic throughout X. The new Digg will be able to track this increased engagement.

This can be interesting for data nerds, as it exposes the impact of X-based targeting with charts and graphs, and offers a way to track signal among what can often be a lot of noise in X. But it’s not clear if there’s enough basic value here for the everyday user, so yeah @ Same a tweet can make something go viral.
The site also ranks the top 1,000 people involved in AI, as well as the top companies and top politicians focused on AI issues.

For those who don’t have time to spend watching X’s AI news, Digg can be a useful resource. But it’s not clear why people regularly turn to Digg over their preferred news app, RSS reader, or even the X For You feed if they want to find out what’s trending — especially since Digg’s site doesn’t currently host any discussions.
Digg may also struggle when it moves to other topics, as AI news is still one of the few areas where the discussion is going on X. Other verticals don’t carry the same weight, especially since Musk’s takeover of the site formerly known as Twitter has spawned an ecosystem of competitors that is now the focus of Meta’s creators. Many non-tech discussions now happen outside of X or off the public internet entirely.
However, if Digg gains steam, it could serve as a useful source of website traffic for publishers whose businesses have been destroyed. decrease in clicks Thanks to Google’s changing algorithms and Impact of AI ViewsAI-generated summaries appear at the top of Google search results, which answer users’ questions before they even navigate to a website.
