Google does giving the ability to integrate with Phone by third-party calling software developers Google and other system assemblers.
The Android team detailed how today Jetpack Telecom v1.1.0 “Brings native level visibility and convenience” to third-party Voice over IP (VoIP) applications.
An integrated call recording feature allows system dialers like Phone by Google to “view call logs directly from third-party VoIP applications.”
Historically, users have had to open individual third-party applications to view their VoIP call history or return a missed call.
Additionally, users can “call back a VoIP contact directly from the native system dialer.” In the example below, we see Google Meet appearing on the Phone’s Home tab by Google, along with mobile calls.

Google also allows developers to “prevent specific calls from entering the system call logs” with Call Log Exclusion.
We understand that not every VoIP call should appear in the system’s local dialer history. Whether it’s for privacy reasons, ephemeral communication, or application-specific behavior, you need control over what’s exposed.
Integrated login and callback functions are available for devices running “Android 16.1 (SDK 36.1) and higher”. For end users, Google is rolling out system dialer integration in “phases,” starting with Google Meet.
To protect against spam, local callers use secure packet whitelists to manage the VoIP screen.
