TL;DR
- ANBERNIC has quietly released an 8GB/128GB version of the RG577 handset.
- This model retails for ~$229, making it ~$50 cheaper than the previously released 256GB variant.
- MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor, OLED screen and 5500 mAh battery await.
The ANBERNIC RG557 launched last year and it was the company’s most powerful yet Android handheld time. It’s still worth watching in 2026, albeit with a few caveats. However, if prices were your biggest concern, there’s good news.
ANBERNIC quietly announced (h/t: r/ANBERNIC) RG577 is now available in 8GB/128GB variant. This joins the 12GB/256GB option that has been available since launch.
The 8GB/128GB RG577 has a recommended retail price (RRP) of US$249.99, but it is currently available on ANBERNIC’s website. $229.02. In contrast, the 256GB model has an RRP of $299.99, but is currently on sale for $279.02.
Anyway, you get good features for the price. There is the same MediaTek Dimensity 8300 the chipset is like the well-received RG477M, meaning you’ve got plenty of horsepower for PS2 and GameCube imitation. However, the Mali GPU means you can struggle with PC and Switch emulation. It also differs by offering a 5.48-inch OLED display instead of the RG477M’s 4.7-inch LCD panel. Other notable features include a 5,500mAh battery, 27W wireless charging, microSD card slot, Hall Effect triggers, and a 3.5mm port.
Having said that, the RG577 faces stiff competition from the likes of Retroid Pocket 5 and 6 as well as AYN Thor and Odin 2 Portal. All of these handsets have OLED displays and Snapdragon chipsets. Additionally, some users have criticized the RG577 for its cheap materials and small analog sticks. Nevertheless, ANBERNIC’s 128GB device still warrants a look if you want a capable Android handset without breaking the $250 mark.
