I always know when a security system is actually broken when I see game news BBC UK website pending report and closure Fate 2 has been deemed high enough to receive a storm of coverage on the public interest barometer.
Bungie‘s announcement of the end of active live service development with the June 9 Monument to Victory update sent shockwaves through the gaming industry. While they won’t completely pull the plug (the servers will remain online in a static state), the community refuses to let decades of memories be put on life support.
While fans are mourning Bungie’s tough decision, resistance is also forming with a coordinated effort on two fronts. online application for Fate 3 development to begin immediately, as well as a call to action for all past and present Trustees to log in on June 9 in solidarity and support.
A sense of an abandoned community
Change.org petition for Sony Destiny 3 already has over 45,000 signatures to start development. I added myself to this number because I feel like Destiny 3 will sell incredibly well for Bungie.
The petition serves as a formal plea to Sony and Bungie management to reconsider moving away from the IP. For many of the signatories, the decision to stop working on the Destiny franchise represents an abandoned community, and to this day the page has some truly heartwarming comments about how many bonds have been made through the game over the years.
“I’ve played destiny since the alpha in 2014, I’ve been here for every expansion, I usually buy the most expensive version so I can get all the content as soon as it comes out. This franchise has helped me make friends I never would have met and got me through some really tough times in my life. I don’t want this world to end with Destiny 2, if Bungie is given the time, resources and proper guidance to create Destiny 3, more stories and memories will be written” – Scott
No game in my life has been so fun and meaningful. Whenever you go to try something new, it doesn’t scratch the same itches as the Destiny franchise. With it coming to an end, I’ll probably be taking a big step away from gaming in general. I wish these giant corporations would stop destroying the things people love.

Destiny and halo were the greatest games of our time! I played Destiny from the beginning. Destiny and the people I’ve met through it have been some of my best video game experiences. Ending suddenly is not fair to anyone. – Brandon
Guards gather on June 9
At the same time, a a call to mass action Posted in the Destiny subreddit. Calling every player, past, present, former or hardcore, to log into the game at the same time on June 9th. The goal is simply to flood the servers to break player records at the same time.
By creating an unprecedented spike in traffic on the day the latest update drops, the community wants to provide Sony executives with an undeniable, visual measure of the franchise’s value.
“We should at least break Marathon’s all-time to show them they made the wrong decision. Heresy was amazing, the edge of the destiny story was interesting. They made it possible by doubling down on bad system changes and ignoring player feedback.
This is our last chance to show that the franchise is still valuable.”
Many fans are bitter that instead of investing in making Destiny better, Sony decided to abandon the franchise in favor of keeping things going. marathon.
I’m sorry, but Marathon is not the right bet. Destiny 3. Guardians out 😔May 22, 2026
I don’t know if Destiny was a victim of the Marathon, but as someone who had a great time with her friends Fate 2 still in infancy, I will also join the picket on June 9. While this is unlikely to result in a corporate turnaround, it will represent a large portion of the players Destiny touches at some point. If he’s going to ride off into the sunset, his community will make sure he goes out with a bang.
