What you need to know
- A rumor circulating online claims that Samsung may rebrand the Galaxy Z Fold 8 this year by adding an “Ultra” label.
- A tipster’s post suggests that Samsung could give the “regular” Fold 8 the Ultra label and offer the rumored Fold 8 Wide the “Galaxy Z Fold 8” name.
- Rumors about these two devices have been slowly trickling in, but a report about the Fold 8 (or Fold 8 Ultra) claims that it might miss out on key features like the Privacy Screen.
Rumors of Samsung’s next book-style foldable have slowly picked up in frequency, but this one, which suggests a branding change, may take the cake.
Early last weekend, tipster Ice Universe went viral on Chinese social media platform Weibo. Samsung claims could slightly rebrand the next Galaxy Z Fold 8 (via 9 to 5 Google). There have been rumors pushing the “Wide” Fold 8 into the mix for a while now. The tipster notes this, but also says that Samsung may add an “Ultra” tag to its next release.
If that sounds a little wild, you’re not alone. Ice Universe reports that Samsung has allegedly named the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra”. Moreover, the long-rumored wider version of this phone could be nicknamed the regular Galaxy Z Fold. The tipster did not elaborate on the rumours. This may not matter, as there is a sufficient selection of previous reports to satisfy our interest (at least for now).
The names are dwindling…
Whatever the name of these devices, rumors have been for months that we could see a regular Fold 8 and a Fold 8 “Wide” (larger aspect ratio). Reports on the latter looked interesting, but then we got something the probable appearance of its chambers. Rumors claim that the wider Fold could house a dual camera setup. We could see a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. This basically puts the wider Fold 8 behind what we’d consider the “regular” Fold 8 for photography.
If we take this rumor to heart, the wider variant will not have a telephoto lens. Latest Fold 8 Rumors it wasn’t that amazingeither. It looks like the phone might miss out on some key features like the Samsung Privacy Screen. Plus, the company could leave the S Pen out again this time, while leaving the obvious screen crease for another day.
It’s hard to ignore how incredibly popular it is The Fold 7 was last year due to the improvements Samsung offered. Among them were a stronger hinge (estimated to last up to ten years) and its thinner profile. That thin profile is likely the reason Samsung won’t be reintroducing the S Pen this year.
Android Central’s Take
I take these rumors as they are now. I try not to overreact or anything like that. It seems a little strange. I feel like Samsung could have just given the Wide Fold 8 a different name (I’m not sure if Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is the name it went with anyway). We’re almost two months away from Samsung’s highly anticipated summer Unpacked. All our interests will be answered there. So, for now, this can be a little brain game.
