If there’s one game hiccups I can’t stand, it’s that joystick scrolling. This is a problem that I think most players experience at some point, and it’s not only incredibly annoying, but also hinders competitive play.
Stick slippage is sometimes caused by small build-up around the bases of the sticks or by improper calibration. These problems can usually be fixed.
But when the problem is deeper, slipping rods can be a cause complete update of the controller. I’ve been through this exact scenario at least a few times, and both times I bought a new Xbox controller to use with my gaming PC.
I know, it’s a waste. But when rod slip can’t be fixed by deep cleaning or stock recalibration, the next best solution usually involves replacing internal components. What’s worse is that once these improvements are made, the problem may not be resolved.
DriftGuard breaks Xbox controller joystick calibration
DriftGuard Starting its journey in 2024, PS4 and PS5 supervisors. It is an understatement to say that this is a huge help for PlayStation users.
But until recently, it was less useful for Xbox controllers due to specific hardware limitations. Now it is Changed with the last leap of DriftGuard.

More Xbox-related features are said to be coming to DriftGuard in the future, but for now, this new stick drift fix is expected to be top-of-the-line. Steam version in “a week or less.“You can also hire Free DriftGuard calibration via browser.
I don’t expect the new features to completely fix stick shift on an Xbox controller with broken internals, but it’s worth a shot before you go out and buy a new gamepad or send your old one in for repair.
👉 What is a Hall Effect controller and do I really need one?
Microsoft has its own recalibration tool can be obtained through Xbox Accessories program. Unfortunately, it only works Xbox wireless controllers and Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 Controllers.
I have used the Microsoft software in the past and it never does the recalibration correctly. Let me know in the comments section below if you have experienced anything similar.
Windows Central has received DriftGuard’s Xbox breakthrough
What is that sound? Millions of Xbox gamers are now screaming with joy that their controllers are not hacked. At least, that’s what I expect if DriftGuard actually nails the Xbox recalibration components.
I gave DriftGuard a shot and it seems to have found some calibration flaws that the official Xbox tool didn’t catch. My controller is in good condition, so it’s hard to tell exactly how much it has changed.
Anyway, anything that works better than Microsoft’s official recalibration tool is welcome. I urge you to give DriftGuard a free shot through the official website. If you like it enough, the paid Steam version helps support developers and unlocks some extra features.
