along with major names such as Playground Games‘ has just been released Forza Horizon 6its upcoming Fall 2026 RPG Fairy taleand the Coalition Gears of War: E-DayIt will be one of the biggest new games from Microsoft and Xbox this year Halo: The campaign has evolved. Officially, its development is led by Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries), but a new report suggests that most of its creation is in the hands of external developers.
This information comes from the well-known Hello recently published insider Rebs Gaming new video report In 2001, he heard from his own sources while reviewing new information about the Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo: Combat Evolved. I’ve covered it in this paragraph, but you can also check it out below.
According to Mr. Rebs, a source familiar with the development of Campaign Evolved said that “there was a lot of outsourcing involved in creating Campaign Evolved, even for the basic programming and design, so it’s not really an in-studio project.”
This suggests that most of the game’s development is being handled by contractors and/or other studios instead of Halo Studios itself, with the latter taking on more of a supervisory role. It should be noted that in recent years, developers of Halo often use contractors. many former employees rejected this policy after Halo Studios’ infamous layoffs in 2023..
It happened previously reported o Abstraction is a subsidiary of recently contributed game development support studio Virtuos. Oblivion Remastered and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — Assisted with both level and technical design for Campaign Evolved.
In addition, Mr. Rebs also revealed that The Library – the infamous Halo: Combat Evolved level that I and many others hated for its annoyingly repetitive level design – will be getting some major changes to address this issue, while other monotonous sections of other levels will also receive tweaks. These represent tweaks that Halo Studios confirmed when the remake was announced last year.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is also said to feature a “Campaign Remix” feature that will make the game highly replayable, with the inclusion of “dozens of game changers.” These can be changed like Skulls, which have been a part of the Halo series since 2004’s Halo 2. One of the Skull patterns we’re likely to see is one that lets you play in third person.
Another would be the option to have Brutes appear alongside other Covenant units in the main story campaign; previous report from Mr. Rebs suggested that Brutes will be part of three new prequel missions added to the campaign in the new remake.
It was touched on later Campaign Evolved will have armor skins for Master Chief (although some of these may have been scrapped) before Mr. Rebs revealed that he had heard of three of the nine new weapons that will be in the remake that weren’t in the original Combat Evolved: the SMG, Speaker, and Brute Plasma Rifle. These join the Energy Sword, Fuel Rod Cannon, Sentinel Beam, Battle Rifle, and Needle Gun; the ninth weapon is still unknown.
Assuming it’s true, the news that Halo: Campaign Evolved is heavily outsourced will no doubt upset some who would have preferred it if it was developed by the series’ core developers. Ultimately, Halo Studios is probably focusing on the next big game after this Halo Infiniteand I think it will be interesting to see how the game turns out. It comes Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox Game Passand this year PS5 and if the latest leak is accurate, the release date could be July 28.
