New Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 It’s a great phone with one big problem: its price. With a retail tag of $1,499.99, the clamshell device is simply out of reach for many people, which has led some to consider the last-gen Razr Ultra as a viable alternative.
Last year’s Ultra is as good as the 2026 phone in many ways, and thanks to a new deal from Amazon, you can get an unlocked Motorola Razr Ultra (2025) today for $699.99. That’s a full $800 less than the 2026 Razr Ultra, which makes it seem like a no-brainer to upgrade to the latest generation while this deal is still active. How do the two phones compare, and what do you sacrifice by going with the 2025 Razr Ultra? Let’s break it down.
Pass on the 2026 Motorola Razr Ultra — last year’s model is $800 off on Amazon today
Recommended if: you want a smartphone with a strong cover and don’t hesitate to upgrade to the latest generation; you prefer the simplicity of buying unlocked phones.
❌ Skip this contract if: you want the latest in flip phone technology and don’t mind paying for it; you want to wait and see if the Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) goes on sale this summer.
Before I start compare the two phonesMotorola Razr Ultra (2025) is worth judging on its own merits. In terms of overall bang for the buck, you really can’t do better than last year’s Ultra. The clamshell still impresses with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 16GB of RAM, plus you get a titanium-reinforced hinge, all-day battery life, and 512GB of storage out of the box.
The 2026 version of the Razr Ultra it improves battery life and camera technology, but that’s about it. There’s no new chip, the displays are basically the same, and you don’t get additional software support. They’re both great phones to be sure, but unless you’re a Motorola fan or money is no object, there’s no reason to go with the 2026 model over last year’s version.
That said, there is one more thing to consider. Motorola’s $200 price hike on the Ultra likely isn’t going down well with consumers, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the company decides to discount the phone (and the rest of the 2026 Razr lineup) next summer. Prime Day 2026 is right around the corner, after all, and you never know what Amazon discounts have in store.
