Crash Bandicoot lives on, which means a part of my childhood lives on, and that warms my heart. I recently made a fan An Unreal Engine 5 project called “Sprash” combining Crash Bandicoot and Spyroyou should definitely check it out.
In any case, it is not related to the trademark application. It seems Activision has now filed for a trademark that spans television, film and cartoons Based on the Crash Bandicoot franchise.
This comes on the heels of reports that Netflix is developing a Crash Bandicoot animated series. But nothing came of these rumors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the project is dead or not real. At the very least, this new trademark filing suggests that Activision is exploring the possibility of expanding Crash Bandicoot beyond video games into film, television, or animation.
Of course, we’re in the midst of a wave of video game adaptations right now. Whether it’s Mario, Sonic, Fallout, the Halo TV series, or the upcoming Gears of War adaptation, there’s no shortage of game franchises making the leap to the screen.
Let’s hope Crash Bandicoot falls into the same category as Fallout and Sonic. Personally, I’d like it to avoid the mistakes made by Halo and, to a lesser extent, Mario. Not to say that Mario was anywhere near as bad as Halo, but I certainly didn’t enjoy the latest movie as much as a lot of people seemed to.
Personally, I would do anything for the Crash Bandicoot series. Now that Activision is part of Microsoft, I think Microsoft should continue to expand its presence in the entertainment space, and TV and movies are a great way to do that.
As we’ve seen with adaptations like Fallout, a successful TV series can also give the games themselves a boost in players. If it goes well, a Crash Bandicoot adaptation could introduce the franchise to a whole new audience while also giving longtime fans something to enjoy.
