you are welcome Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the world of indie apps. If you’re a developer and want your app featured, get it in contact.
Navigating different cities and finding their public transportation can be a bit confusing at times. Map apps may not always have the best information, or existing apps don’t present the information in a super readable way.
Next There aims to address this issue as well as delays, on-time performance, etc. collects a lot of historical information to provide more informed information about Great for both tourists and frequent visitors.
Highlights
Next There is not a new app, although it has gained more features in its latest update, 4.1. It adds ride analytics, real-time vehicle mapping, and a much-improved UI. The program has also expanded from just Australia and New Zealand to select US regions including New York, Los Angeles, North Carolina, Boston, Hawaii, Chicago, San Francisco Bay Area, Portland and Washington State. It also supports Ontario, Canada.
Unfortunately, this is not an exhaustive list of US cities with public transit, some of the main ones missing are Atlanta, Washington, and Philadelphia. That said, once you’ve used the app, you’ll focus on the details that go into properly supporting each city, rather than having an overall experience.
Two of my favorite things are the real-time vehicle map and detailed delay information. The first feature is two-fold: you’ll see vehicles on the route as you both move, but there’s also the ability to check exact vehicle tracks for individual buses or trains – to see where they’re slowing down or stuck in traffic.
When it comes to detailed delay information, the app takes into account historical route performance showing you on-time performance, delays on routes and also status information. If you are a tourist in a new city, seeing a historical performance can be helpful in planning your travels.
Next There it also offers widgets, Live Actions, and real-time notifications to provide you with instant, deeper insights.
