TL;DR
- Google is rolling out Gemini Go to eligible Android Go devices.
- Gemini Go Assistant will replace Go.
- The rollout is gradual, so you may not get it right away.
Google won’t be happy until Gemini replaces all traces of Google Assistant. It even includes the lightweight Assistant Go, designed for low-end Android Go devices. If you have an Android Go device, it’s time to say hello to Gemini Go.
a blog postGoogle has announced that it has launched Gemini Go, a simplified version of Gemini that will work even on phones with lower specs. In particular, this version of Gemini requires only 2 GB of RAM. As mentioned earlier, it will replace Assistant Go to provide a more conversational experience.
With this launch, Android Go device owners will be able to use Gemini directly on their devices. This means you can access AI without being forced to use the web version as a workaround. You can start a chat by pressing and holding the home button or pressing and holding the power button.
Know that you won’t see Gemini Go right away. Google is taking its time by rolling out the update gradually. Since the experience is part of the Google Search app, you can check if it’s available by going to the app’s page in the Play Store. If there is an update button, you may want to tap it to install the latest Google Search app.
