In its latest “Privacy on the iPhone” ad, Apple tries to make Android phones look ancient and ugly.
Apple’s new iPhone ad released tonight is all about privacy via the Safari browser, with Apple describing online data trackers as people walking over your shoulder as you surf the web — not so subtle “ooh, chrome” joke it is thrown on top like a cherry.
The ad shows the iPhone 17 Pro Max in a vibrant and attractive Space Orange color, while the Android phones in the ad are ridiculous. The rumored device shown is chunky and boxy with a tiny camera and an awkward-looking selfie camera cutout. Also, it doesn’t really mirror any real Android phone maybe those wildly sturdy ones – but does anyone really buy them?
This isn’t the first time Apple has described Android phones this way – it’s actually quite common. But this is a particularly egregious example. It’s not just making Android phones look bad by using an outdated Android phone, it’s just using a device that doesn’t reflect the real world.
What do you think about the ad?
