The first major update to the Google Health app (version 5.01) is rolling out with 16 additions and fixes to improve the original design.
Google has released some patch updates since last month, but today’s update is the first major version increase. Officially, this is “the first of many improvements to come.” Version 5.01 is not yet widely available Android or iOS. This connects to Google Roadmap shared last week and updated.
The improvements and updates grouped into four categories:
Nutritional Enhancements
- Specialty Foods: You can now view and access previously created custom dishes. The addition of new custom dishes is coming soon.
- Macronutrient Goal Guidelines: Additional explanations and guidance for setting macronutrient goals.
- Third Party Food Registry Enhancements:
- Fixed an issue where some food records from MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, and LoseIt via Apple Health were labeled as “Other” food type instead of the correct type.
- Improved management of food records from the same third-party app when that app connects directly to Health Connect and Google Health.
- Added default food names when records from Apple Health do not have a name.
- More control when logging into iOS: Made it easier to switch between measurement units when listing food items from search results.
- Chart Enhancements: Nutrition and calorie charts are now more relevant between Today, Health and nutrition deep dive reviews.
Fitness and Activity Innovations
- Corrected Exercise Labels: Fixed an issue with some runs being labeled as other exercise types. New and previous runs will now be correctly labeled as runs.
- Incomplete splits: Fixed the issue of missing splits in some run summaries.
- Loading Map: Improved load states for maps from GPS exercises.
- Mobile Step Counting on iOS: Fixed an issue with steps being counted twice for some users who had both Apple Health and Mobile Track enabled.
Sleep Updates
- Reliability of the Sleep Score: Fixed issues with sleep tab not showing sleep scores for some users.
General Updates
- Tab on Android today: Fixed an issue where some users were not seeing the latest information in the Today feed on Android. Updated defaults for devices supported by Cardio Load for new users.
- Account migration on iOS: Fixed an issue that blocked some users from transferring their Fitbit account to their Google account. If you restart the migration flow, you will be able to switch to a Google account.
- Friends and Family on iOS: Fixed an issue where the Friends and Family screen was slow to load or failed to load for some users.
- VoiceOver on iOS: Improved buttons and graphics for VoiceOver and TalkBack.
