Just a few months later, Samsung is rolling out a new update for football fans. Samsung has rolled out a fresh update to Always On Display (AOD) on Galaxy smartphones, bringing the app version to 8.9.36.23 with features that help users stay updated on the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

One UI’s Always On Display app is getting “new UI animations for Google Sports soccer goal posts and highlights in the Now Bar,” according to the changelog. It appears to be a build-up to the FIFA World Cup – the first since 1994 – which kicks off (literally) later this week and will be hosted jointly by the US, Canada and Mexico.

We don’t see new animations on the phones right now, but we were able to extract animations from the latest software package.
The following animations appear in the Now Panel on your lock screen and in the AOD when the Now Panel is enabled. The first one shows the celebration with falling confetti.
The next one shows a goal, the soccer ball (soccer) hits the net. The same animation repeats three times, and it may be doing the same thing on your Galaxy device’s lock screen.
The latter is for a red card, which may appear to be on the side of the receiving team, although we have yet to confirm this.
To get these alerts, go to the Galaxy Store on your phone, look for pending app updates, and update the Always On Screen app. Here is a direct link if you want to skip steps.
In addition, go Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Always on Display on your Galaxy phone and make sure Now show your bar is activated. You should also enable sports updates from your Google Discover home page.
Finally, since One UI’s Always On Display is tied to the lock screen, these animations can appear there as well. While we spotted them in One UI 8.5, these holidays may also be available on older devices if you can install the update.
