If you’re like me, chances are you grew up in an era where split-screen gaming became the norm and something you just expected. Whether it was on the original Xbox with Halo: Combat Evolved or later with Gears of War. Xbox 360these shared couch co-op moments helped define the early days of the Xbox.
As Halo fans know, split-screen has become a bit of a sore spot over the years. After promising split-screen co-op after its absence in Halo 5Hello Ultimately, he never fulfilled that promise. This is something that many fans, myself included, have been wanting for a long time.
thankfully looks like we’re finally getting double good news. Both Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day will feature two-player split-screen co-op, meaning yes, couch co-op is back, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved, Halo Studios has released a new video detailing the game’s co-op features. The game will support four-player cross-platform co-op, as well as two-player split-screen co-op on console.
Interestingly, the split screen was revealed via a YouTube short of the whole thing. This is where we get some playful commentary from the new voice actor for Sgt. Avery Johnson, so I definitely recommend checking it out full short if you want all the details.
As for Gears of War: E-Day, the reveal was actually during the Xbox Games Showcase, or rather, followed by E-Day Direct. It became known during the presentation:
“All four characters are playable from the start in the campaign, and we support four-player online co-op and two-player split-screen on console.”
Personally, I’m excited to see split-screen gaming make a comeback. I have fond memories of playing previous Halo games with a friend, and even the thought of someone else making those same memories with their friends or family brings a smile to my face.
