Last weekend Xbox Games Expo It was Microsoft’s latest big game launch, and it’s packed with trailers, in-depth looks, and more. Halo: The campaign has evolved and Gears of War: E-Day to upcoming RPGs like Fairy tale and The clockwork revolution.
Note that it was a game no from the show was Marvel’s Blade, a new single-player third-person action-adventure title Bethesda and Arkane Lyon (Dishonored, Deathloop), which sees you play as the legendary vampire hunter anti-hero of comic book fame. It was first announced during The Game Awards in 2023we have hardly heard or seen anything of it since then.
Many were concerned that Blade might be quietly cancelled A “Let’s Bake” GIF from Arkane’s lead concept artist recently confirmed that it’s still in the oven. Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty also hinted that there’s a “potential” we’ll be hearing more about Blade in the coming months, noting that the project is still in development.
“It’s a big show, I can’t fit everything in. It’s a big show and there will be other beats throughout the year,” he told Variety when asked why Blade wasn’t at the Xbox Games Showcase. “There’s always the potential to hear more about things that aren’t visible today.”
Although this is not the case concrete confirmation that we’ll be getting an update on Blade development soon, that gives me hope Xbox and Arkane will be showing more at some point later this year.
If I had to guess, I’d say we’ll probably see the game appear in both Gamescom Live Night Live in August or at The Game Awards this December. However, it’s also entirely possible that Microsoft will reveal more on its own regardless of any major gaming events.
Many believe that Blade will be an Xbox console exclusive, although this has not been directly reported. Still, Microsoft owns both Bethesda and Arkane, and has shown that it is ready to return to exclusive games Keeping Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution off the PS5; CEO Asha Sharma said he believes exclusives can help overcome Xbox’s recent business woesalso.
If we do Look out for more on Blade later this year, and I’d expect Microsoft to share more about the title’s potential exclusivity than I expected. Until next time though? I’ll settle for the fact that we know it’s not axed.
