What you need to know
- Chromecast users with Google TV are reporting issues with their remote after the supposed update.
- Remotes have trouble communicating with the streaming switch, often failing multiple times without a clear response/acknowledgment from Google.
- Google’s Chromecast hasn’t been flawless, as the 2025 streaming product has had some problematic issues.
With Google TV users, Chromecast has been hitting official channels this week, telling them their remotes aren’t having a good time.
A string came out On Reddit within the last twenty-four hours, it has been reporting that the Chromecast remote is broken after the last patch (via 9 to 5 Google). The user explains that they have two Chromecasts with Google TV dongles, and each of their remotes is broken. They report that “Recently the remote keeps shutting down.” The user tried to resolve their brand issues but to no avail.
Android Central’s Take
There have been users suffering from this problem for some time, but there has been no “correct” response from Google. One user brought it up, saying that others had filed a report on the Google Nest forum, but nothing came of it. It’s hard to find the “why” here. In my experience, Google has at least encouraged users to report or provide more details (model, software version, etc.) through other official channels.
Changing dongles doesn’t work, nor does changing the remote or using an HDMI extender (just to make sure the remotes are clearly visible). Changing TVs doesn’t work either. The report adds: “Nothing untested. All options result in the remote constantly disconnecting and sometimes not reconnecting.”
At his wit’s end, the user claims that these issues started after Google’s latest Chromecast update. It is not clear how widespread this issue is. Some users who responded to the thread had no problems, while others, such as user horizon_fleet, reported that the Chromecast could not find the WiFi network. After disconnecting it from the power source, they were able to get things working by restarting it.
A separate thread There are mentions of similar struggles on Reddit, but no one has found a concrete solution that works flawlessly.
Other issues
Google’s Chromecast hasn’t been flawless this year. In 2025, the company struggled problems reported by users continuouslysuch as several bugs that appeared after the Android 14 update. Users have reported a number of issues such as missing audio, remote control and external storage issues. Moreover, users missed important settings on their devices. It was a bittersweet note on an update that users have been eagerly waiting for almost a year.
The problems continued to spread like “” for Chromecast.Invalid device” bug prevented streaming content from phones to 2nd generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio devices. It took a while for Google to respond, but it acknowledged the problem and promised to provide a fix for affected users.
Hopefully users struggling with Chromecast remote issues will see a fix coming from Google soon.
