The Motorola Razr Fold has arrived, and there’s a lot to like about Motorola’s first book-style foldable device. From his performance impressive camerasThe Razr Fold is a great first attempt at such a foldable phone, making it a worthy competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup.
Although the Razr Fold just hit store shelves, we’re already looking forward to the next iteration and how the company can improve on the already great package. So, after spending a few weeks with the Razr Fold, here’s what I’d like to see from the Razr Fold 2027.
More colors
Lately, Motorola has been known for its bold color choices, especially since then In collaboration with Pantone a few years ago. Almost every Motorola smartphone is offered in interesting colors and finishes like vegan leather, Alcantara and wood. Motorola Razr 2026 differs even more.
The Razr Fold is kind of weird. Of course, Motorola still uses alternative and high-quality materials other than glass, which I appreciate. However, Fold only available in two colorsand they are mostly black and white. This kind of goes against Motorola’s color philosophy, which tends to steer away from “safe” colors.
On one hand, I understand that this is Motorola’s first book-style foldable, so it wants to play it safe by only offering two color options. It’s a pretty expensive phone, and Motorola could use it to gauge demand for future models.
With any luck, the Razr Fold 2027 will add another color option or two to the list. After all, it’s a great smartphone and probably the best Motorola flagship since the Razr Ultra 2025, so I’d love to see Motorola really show it off with bold color choices.
More configuration
The Razr Fold is a powerful phone, and a big reason for that is Motorola’s pairing Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 With 16GB of RAM. That’s enough to run AI features and tons of open apps on multiple devices without the phone breaking a sweat. However, with RAM crisis with all the price gouging, maybe it’s time for Motorola to consider offering more than one configuration for the device.
This is the strategy that Samsung uses with its devices. For example, it offers three RAM/storage configurations Galaxy Z Fold 7Starting from 12 GB/256 GB to 16 GB/1 TB, Samsung can offer the phone at different prices.
Motorola could do the same with the Razr Fold 2027, not only to benefit consumers who are willing to pay more for higher RAM and storage, but perhaps to offer a cheaper model with just 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For many AI on the device features, 12GB is plenty, and 256GB is a good amount for many people, especially as cloud storage options become more common.
This way, the Razr Fold 2027 could start at a lower price, say $1,700, which would allow Motorola to undercut its competitors even further.
Magnet everywhere
The Motorola Razr Fold has excellent charging features, offering 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. This last one is particularly interesting, especially since achieving such speeds will require a very special wireless charger, such as the Motorola TurboPower 50W Wireless Charger. Wireless charging at this speed is often difficult (it’s not even on Motorola’s website) or expensive.
Instead, I’d like to see Motorola offer the Razr Fold 2027 with Qi2 charging capabilities, especially given how the standard has grown and how many Qi2 chargers there are already. Additionally, the Razr Fold must come with built-in magnets to take full advantage of the standard, unlike Samsung’s standoff. Qi2-Ready implementation.
Of course, it can only be limited to 25W with the charger Qi2.2 standardbut it’s still fast enough (many Samsung phones charge at the same speed as using a cable) and if you need faster charging, you can just plug it in. Frankly, if it means adding magnetic accessories to my phone or attaching the Razr Fold to a magnetic stand without needing a case, I’d be willing to halve the wireless charging speed.
A truly flagship chipset
Despite the phone running a sub-flagship chipset, performance on the Razr Fold is quite impressive. Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a step below it Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5and more closely matches the original Snapdragon 8 Elite, albeit with lower clock speeds. Still, given how volatile smartphone prices are in 2026, it’s no surprise that Motorola isn’t going for a top-of-the-line chipset, which would likely keep costs down while still delivering plenty of performance.
It’s a strategy Motorola is known for with its flagship foldables, with previous top-of-the-range Razr phones generally favoring sub-flagship options over the most premium chip available. The company changed that Razr Ultra 2025Sporting the Snapdragon 8 Elite, we were hoping this year’s Razr models would have the same.
But while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is still a great chip, it would be nice to see the Razr Fold 2027 running on any flagship chipset we get from Qualcomm. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. This will help it better compete with some of the best foldable devices from Samsung and others.
Motorola might even consider giving it a flagship MediaTek chipset, as the company isn’t shy about mixing chips between the Razr lineup, as the low-end Razr flip phone usually runs a MediaTek Dimensity chipset. This could potentially help offset costs, as Qualcomm isn’t exactly cheap.
Still, Motorola could help offset the cost of the next Fold by offering more configurations, giving it more room to introduce the higher-end chipset we’d expect to see in a flagship of this caliber.
Better durability
The Razr Fold is a pretty solid phone, especially foldables. It has an IP48 rating, which means it’s basically protected against water ingress. You can get it wet or submerge it in water and it should be fine in most general conditions (although not completely waterproof).
That said, the dust protection leaves a little to be desired. That “4” means it’s protected against dust particles 1mm or larger, but anything smaller can still cause some damage.
Currently, Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold it’s the only foldable phone with full dust protection, meaning it’s possible. Given that consumers are still concerned about foldable durability, the Razr Fold 2027 should beef up its defenses to give them more peace of mind.
And on that note, I wish there were more cases and screen protectors for both first and third party. After all, you can never be too safe when it comes to a $1,900 product.
