Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp have faced a Meta outage

Meta had a bad Friday morning. A massive Meta outage took down Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger for users around the world starting just before 10:00 a.m. ET. By noon, it was recovering unevenly by region.

It seemed that trouble had begun WhatsAppthen spreads. Facebook users are suddenly logged out, encounter a “Request Error” or “Sorry, something went wrong” message and are unable to log back in. Others could open the app, but not write, comment, react, search, or download Stories and Marketplace.

What Down Detector shows

The website Down Detector, which monitors the severity, recorded a sharp increase. With the number of reports exceeding 130,000, it falls heavily on Facebook; Instagram has about 9,500 and WhatsApp less. Among all three, most people reported problems with the app, then sign in.

These numbers are self-reported, so they track complaints, not Meta’s own data. But reports came from as far away as the United States, from the Philippines and Taiwan to Australia, Spain and South Africa, pointing to something more central than a local glitch.

Enterprises were seized

It wasn’t just a slide. Meta’s status page noted “high outages” across business products, including Facebook Ads Manager, Messenger Platform, Messenger API for Instagram, and WhatsApp Business Platform. Advertisers were unable to create or edit ads, and Meta apologized for the “inconvenience.” On Friday, the timing went wrong.

The meta confirms the violation, but not the cause

Meta acknowledged the issues on its status page, citing “high downtime” and saying its engineering teams were “actively looking to resolve the issue as soon as possible.” It is not known what caused the outage or how many users were affected.

No word yet on whether this is a configuration error infrastructure failure or something.

Restoration work was already underway. Meta noted that some services, such as ad delivery, have been resolved, while others are “in the process of being restored.” On the consumer side, Facebook was getting back to normal and Low Detector reports were decreasing, although some users still saw an empty Stories bar, an outdated feed, or a “Try Again” error.

Here’s the thing: Meta’s applications run into the billions and even ripple through messaging, business, and logins for hours offline. This morning was an eventful day for Meta promised free AI glasses to every blind US veteran. This is an evolving story; we will update it with Meta explanation and everything clear.
