That moment Fate 2 developer Bungie announced As the game’s live service development ended with the release of the latest content update, there was an immediate backlash from the looter shooter community against the studio’s new game. marathon.
Many Destiny fans angrily blamed Marathon for Destiny 2’s endingclaimed to have been abandoned by the latter Bungie developers in favor of a new extraction shooter. This led to some nasty arguments between players of both games, which I was very disappointed to see, and ultimately ruined Destiny’s legacy (and A push for a potential Destiny 3) somewhat.
However, former Bungie community manager Liana Ruppert the player took to social media to address his speculations and conjectures“A lot of money didn’t go into Destiny,” he said, not because of Marathon, but because of leadership “greed.”
“We (former developers) say it goes into the management’s pockets,” he said. “You should be upset, but keep the blame where it belongs. A marathon has less impact than you think.”
Now Ruppert has once again spoken about the relationship between Marathon, Destiny and Bungie’s business – this time saying it’s “the only way to keep Bungie alive right now”. Fate 2‘s end is “To support the marathon.”
Half the community will hate me for saying this, but the only way to keep Bungie alive right now is to support the Marathon. People keep comparing Marathon numbers to Destiny, and honestly, that’s ignorant. Marathon was never meant to make Bungie numbers. Conversations…June 12, 2026
“Half the community is going to hate me for saying this, but the only way to keep Bungie alive right now is to support the Marathon,” he said. he wrote in a social media post.
“People keep comparing Marathon numbers to Destiny, and honestly, that’s ignorant. Marathon was never meant to do (Destiny) numbers,” Ruppert continued. “There were very early conversations about it. It’s more in line with Tarkov than Destiny. Completely different target markets, it has a wide cross-over point with Destiny’s target markets because it’s uniquely numerous.”
In fact, that’s what he’s saying here Sony – which one In 2022, Bungie bought it for PlayStation — Marathon doesn’t have Destiny-sized expectations, and so even if the game doesn’t grow as much as Destiny, the publisher can consider it a success and continue to invest in Bungie projects as long as Marathon does decently well.
“Their value isn’t ONLY in Marathon, but if Marathon is considered a failed project – which it isn’t – it puts them to the test of turning the Bungie name from a production studio into an experience service that will benefit the entire Sony network,” Ruppert said. he added in a follow-up comment.
I’m not sure if we’ll ever get Destiny 3, but if you want to see Bungie pull it off at some point, I agree with Ruppert that you should want Marathon to do well, even if it’s not really your type of game. So far, it hasn’t been a huge hit or anything, but it has a passionate community of gamers everywhere. XboxPC and PS5 even so.
I tried it out and had a good time and probably won’t be back to it for too long, hopefully, and good days ahead for Bungie as a studio.
Would you like to see Sony and Bungie finally move forward with Destiny 3? I’m interested, so leave a comment and vote in our poll to let me know.
